Can You Use CBD Products When You’re Pregnant?

The growth in popularity of CBD products has brought many different types of interested consumers and unsurprisingly, some of those consumers are pregnant.

If you are one of these people, you’re likely asking ‘Is it safe to consume CBD products while pregnant?’.

The FDA is against this, stating that a fetus can’t properly process cannabinoids. They go on to state that THC can potentially transfer through breast milk for approximately six days after usage. This isn’t good, as it means your precious bub will be exposed to the psychoactive element too early in life.

If you’ve read any of our previous blogs, you would have seen that CBD oils only contain trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%), and thus, you may think that CBD oil is safe to consume while pregnant…we recommend against it.

The Science

Babies in the womb, and for months after birth, are 100% reliant on their mothers for their nutrition and health, and in these early stages of life, they are like little sponges, consuming everything that’s passed into their mother’s body. For this reason, it’s crucial for pregnant women to eat a healthy diet and keep stress levels as low as possible.

Conclusion

Although CBD products are safe for adults to consume, we want to reiterate that it’s not appropriate for a baby or pregnant woman. It’s always best to be safe, especially when you’re growing a little human.
